Jeff Mengis
President | CEO
Jeff began his career in 1987 at Black & Co., a Portland based investment banking and security research firm. In 1991, Jeff joined Charter Investment Group, which was later acquired by Sutro & Company. As a portfolio manager at Sutro, he developed a growth at a reasonable price (GARP) investment philosophy and approach.
In 2001, Jeff founded Mengis Capital Management as an RIA firm to better serve his clients' interests. With over 37 years of investment experience, he has successfully managed portfolios through three major market corrections and has significant tenure managing portfolios from $1 million to $100 million. Jeff grew up in The Dalles and is a graduate of Oregon State University.
Cindy Aschbacher
Chief Compliance Officer | Portfolio Manager
Cindy joined our team in June 2007 as a Senior Portfolio Manager specializing in both fixed income and equity products. She has over 40 years of experience in the investment industry.
Before Mengis, Cindy was an Investment Advisor at RBC Dain Rauscher, having been with the firm since 1994 when it was Charter Investment Group. Prior to 1994, she worked in U.S. Bancorp's Investment Division where she specialized in fixed income products servicing bank branches throughout Oregon. Upon entering the industry, she was with the local Northwest firm Foster & Marshall, Inc. in municipal trading. Cindy is a life-long resident of Portland, Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon.
Michael Patterson, CFA
Research | Portfolio Manager
Michael joined our team in October 2007 as an Investment Advisor. Prior to joining Mengis Capital Management, he was a wealth manager for a small privately held firm called HAP International, Inc. for about three years. Michael also spent three years working as a Legislative Correspondent on business and financial matters for U.S. Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana.
Michael is a third generation Oregonian born in Portland. After graduating from Villanova University in 2002 and a short stint working back east, he returned home to Portland in 2005.
Mike Sorem
Portfolio Manager
Mike is a Portfolio Manager with a background in financial planning and client relations. He joined Mengis Capital in June 2016, bringing a wealth of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to his role at Mengis Capital, Mike held various positions at Spectrum Strategic Capital Management, an advisory firm in the Central Willamette Valley.
Mike grew up in Albany, Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University in 2010 with a B.S. in Business Administration/Finance. He is a proud supporter and alumni of Oregon State athletics.
Teri Mengis
Operations Associate
Teri is an experienced Operations Manager within the investment management industry. She joined Mengis Capital in 2014 and oversees the client operations of the company. Prior to her role at Mengis, she was an administrative coordinator at The Oregon Golf Club.
Teri grew up in The Dalles, Oregon and now lives in Portland. She enjoys playing golf, bike riding and spending time with her family and friends.
Martin Bats
Client Service Associate
Martin, originally from Brussels, Belgium, earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Eastern Washington University before pursuing his Master of Business Administration at Gonzaga University. Alongside his studies, he gained valuable experience through internships, preparing him for his career ahead. In November 2023, Martin joined Mengis Capital as a Client Service Associate, marking the first step in his professional journey. Recently, he relocated to the Portland area, eager to contribute his skills and expertise to his new role. Throughout his academic career, Martin was a student-athlete on the tennis team where he received various academic awards.
